Stephen Simmons
Dec 8, 2011 | 0 commentsOne of our favorite performers to come out of East Nashville…Simmons tours this country & Europe to enthusiastic crowds. Stephen Simmons was raised in the small town of Woodbury, Tennessee. His mother was a schoolteacher and his father held a factory job. In his family, they were the first generation that didn’t work the farm. As a songwriter, Stephen’s vision has grown to entail more than just reflections of rural America. The songs on his recordings, deal with existential realities that are familiar to country and city dwellers alike: redemption, heartbreak, hangovers and the loneliness of the road. Stephen’s records, The Superstore, Last Call, Drink Ring Jesus, Something In Between, The Blame’s On U.S., Girls and Live at Blue Highways (which were compared to everyone from Johnny Cash to Ryan Adams) combine virtuosic songcraft and musicianship with unparalleled artistic honesty. Drew Gibson, CD Release Concert! BJ Kocen opens!
Dec 7, 2011 | 0 commentsDrew brings the full band to celebrate the release of his new cd, THE SOUTHERN DRAW, that was produced by Paul Curreri! DREW GIBSON, guitarist, songwriter and Virginia native, is distinct as a dusty street, as if grown from the earth, rooted in soil and dirt, yet blossoming with flowery heartache: Drew’s music possesses a brand of yearning for the simple things – front porches, letterboxes, and all things folk and blue. Possessing an acoustic foundation with walls of electricity and melodic in its simplicity, his debut release brings a level of professionalism and maturity rarely seen in a freshman effort today. LETTERBOX reaches into a world of country blues, roots music, Americana, and folk. With influences from Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, and Mississippi John Hurt, and even John Coltrane, spinning melodies with outstanding guitar picking stature is truly this working man’s craft. tickets are $10 at the...
