Renshaw Davies is a new roots/ folk duo based in New Orleans, Louisiana, comprised of John Renshaw (vocals, guitar) and Emily Davies (vocals, light percussion). They draw influences from the fused harmonies of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, the desert air of Fleetwood Mac, Shovels and Rope’s sweet and wild abandon, Bob Dylan’s raw poetry, and the acerbic wit of Father John Misty.
The duo routinely tours across the south, sharing the stage with acts such as Alejandro Escovedo, The Kid Carsons, Motel Radio, Sam Doores, Mipso, The Whiskey Shivers, W.B. Givens, Alexis and the Samurai, and Banditos.
A native New Orleanian, John Renshaw (vocals, guitar) grew up all over the country: Oklahoma, Florida, Virginia, Ohio, and Georgia. Ultimately though, he was drawn back to his roots. Meanwhile, Emily, born and raised in Maryland, felt the pull towards New Orleans, and went to find out where music would take her.
The pair met four years ago one fateful open mic night at Neutral Ground Coffeehouse in Uptown, New Orleans. Since that day, Emily and John have been playing together in various formations and bands before finding their true voice as the two-piece, Renshaw Davies.
The duo’s single is a 7” vinyl record including songs “Auctioneer” and “Going Down the Road”. The tracks contrast with Renshaw Davies’ live show in that they feature bass, drums, banjo, bouzouki, organ, and lap steel. This session was produced and recorded at New Orleans’ own, Bear America Records on Magazine St.
Currently, Renshaw Davies is planning a cross country tour to support their upcoming debut album, also being produced and recorded at Bear America Records.
