“Dance a Little Closer: a Tribute to the Songs of Nanci Griffith”

In a career that now spans two decades, New York duo Pete and Maura Kennedy have traversed a broad musical landscape, surveying power pop, acoustic songwriting, organic rock rooted in their early days in Austin, and a Byrds-inspired jangle that drew the attention of Roger McGuinn, Steve Earle, and most notably Nanci Griffith. The duo co-produced Nanci’s latest CD. On their own recent release, “Closer Than You Know,” the songs have a quality, inherent in Maura’s voice, that is both soothing and urgent. As writers and producers, the Kennedys continue to mature, from their early style-conscious pop to today’s burnished sheen. Always tuned to their own muse, Pete and Maura have once again come up with a unique sound that is as uplifting as it is unclassifiable.

Veterans Pete and Maura Kennedy celebrate their two-decades long creative friendship with Nanci Griffith, presenting a full live set of Griffith’s songs, spanning the range of the Texas singer’s career, and including classics not heard onstage since the 1980’s. The Kennedys, who have toured with Griffith for years and produced her latest CD,  recently released “Dance a Little Closer”, a live acoustic duo recording, paying tribute to Griffith’s classic Americana songs.

Her voice is gathering a reputation in the region, hailed by listeners as “an instrument of unrefined purity” (Tony S.- Leicester Bangs) and “the most pure voice I’ve ever heard” (Karin Fuller- The Charleston Gazette). She currently plays festival stages in Virginia and Maryland and delights audiences at vineyards, coffeehouses, and house concerts throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Kipyn was a multi-award winner at the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (Gold Award in Open category, Director’s Choice Award, Honorable Mention in Folk/Acoustic), and she was also named a semi-finalist in the 2013 UK Song Contest. An honesty and vitality of voice make this woman a performing artist not to be missed.
