Join powerhouse singers Amy Black and Sarah Borges for a soulful celebration of the incredible music that came out of Muscle Shoals, Alabama in the 1960s and 70s. Together, with a full band, they will perform classic songs originally recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama by Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Lou Rawls, Bob Dylan and many others, as well as a few originals that embody the spirit and soul of Muscle Shoals.
Singer/songwriter Amy Black is based in Boston, but has Southern soul in her blood. With two critically acclaimed albums of original music to her name, she was inspired to create this revue show after recording a four-song EP last summer in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, her family’s homeland, with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Spooner Oldham. In January 2015, Amy returned to Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals with an all-star band to turn the EP into a full-length album, featuring Spooner Oldham, Charles Rose of the Muscle Shoals Horns, Regina and Ann McCrary of the McCrary Sisters and Alabama born Will Kimbrough. The “Muscle Shoals Sessions” album, which includes classic covers and new originals, will be released June 9, 2015, kicking off an extensive national tour of “A Muscle Shoals Music Revue.” www.amyblack.com
Sarah Borges is an alluring figure onstage, delivering performances packed with power and punch. Born to play rock ‘n’ roll, she gives herself fully — much to the audience’s pleasure. Her latest album, “Radio Sweetheart,” was produced by Steve Berlin, best known as keyboardist and saxophonist for the Chicano-rock group Los Lobos. Based in Boston, Sarah has drawn praise from the most elite of music scribes, including Rolling Stone, The New York Times, USA Today, Creative Loafing and The Boston Globe. Stepping away from her rock ‘n’ roll repertoire, Sarah brings her intensity and fire to the classic music of Muscle Shoals…to great effect. www.sarahborges.com
