For the next year-and-a-half John Bryan’s new paintings and prints will be presented – a few weeks at a time – at venues throughout the Richmond region. During September the artworks can be viewed and purchased at Ashland Coffee & Tea. This is your opportunity to purchase John’s beautiful and evocative paintings and know that money is being donated to CultureWorks (formerly The Arts Council of Richmond) to help strengthen the arts and culture of the Richmond region.
Artist John Bryan has the wisdom and confidence of a man who has spent a lifetime devoted to serving his community. Truly a noteworthy Richmond figure, Bryan comes off as being full of inner peace, but his ambition for the future remains staggering. Currently President of CultureWorks, he was previously Associate Dean of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts, where he saw the art department rise in academic and artistic reputation. He created the Arts Heritage Society, which recognizes those who support the School of the Arts and its students. After his work at VCU, he worked as a Development Officer at the American Sportsfishing Association. He had a brief tenure as Vice President of Advancement at the Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond before the Arts Council of Richmond named him their new president in 2008. The Arts Council became CultureWorks in October 2009.
The paintings are watercolor on 300# Arches paper, framed in maple with conservation glass.
The prints of the paintings are created on acid-free paper and result from one of the nation’s few TTI Digital Reprographics Workstations with Phase One’s FX scanning back (with resolutions up to 10,500 x 12,600 pixels) – the system used by the U.S. Library of Congress for its archives. SFA Fine Art Services – a CultureWorks corporate strategic partner (www.staplesart.com) – has donated all print services.

Heil Sound, Ltd. was founded by Bob Heil in 1966. Bob pioneered the live sound industry with clients such as the Grateful Dead, the Who, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck and scores of major touring acts of the 60’s and 70’s. Bob and Heil Sound have won numerous awards over the years, including the first ever “Pioneer Award” from the Audio Engineering Society, and the Parnelli Award. In 2007, Bob was invited into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to put up a display of his historically important gear, including the first modular console (the Mavis) his custom quadraphonic mixer (for the Quadraphenia tour) and the very first Heil Talk Box. Join us for our first ever Songwriter’s Workshop! We’ll begin at 6 PM with a Meet and Greet (dinner is available) and get down to business at 7 PM. The workshop will consist of a lecture, question and answer interactive time, and critiques. Cost of the workshop is $35.00. On Thursday, Mr. Leigh will also be available for one on one consultations during the day (cost is $100 per hour, co-writers can split the cost).
