Jim Hurst

Bluegrass guitar at it’s best! Jim Hurst was born in Middleboro, Kentucky into a musical family and was raised with a guitar in his hands. Many weekends growing up were spent picking with family and friends. Jim was influenced early in his career by flatpickers such as Tony Rice and George Shuffler, but Doc Watson and Clarence White especially. He also heard Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, and Jerry Reed, calling his discovery of their fingerstyle playing “a turn in the road” for him. His diverse tastes led him to play in several bands, playing country, bluegrass, blues, jazz and other styles. His career was already growing when Holly Dunn came calling in 1990. Jim also performed with Sara Evans, Travis Tritt, and the McCarter Sisters. In search of more bluegrass playing, Hurst joined Grammy nominated and IBMA Vocalist of the Year – Claire Lynch in 1995….Jim is a sought after Nashville studio musician, recording and performing with many acoustic artists...

Charlottesville musician,  producer, guitar master, and husband to Devon Sproule, Paul Curreri returns to the Listening Room stage! “Such a fluent fingerpicker that he’s free of all convention or blues device, grooving and improvising all over the place. …And truth be told,  there’s hardly a stanza not worth quoting.” – Puremusic.com  His latest release, California, has been generating rave reviews: Uncut magazine gave it four stars; and MOJO described the album as “13 intimate, luminously produced tracks, and his multi-instrumental skills consistently impress…at their best, give (Dylan, Joe Henry, and Springsteen) a run for their money.”  It’s his first album in three years, the result of having to take over 15 months off  when major throat surgery took him off the road and out of the recording studio… it was a long wait for all his fans but thankfully Paul’s now back to touring and to amazing old fans and new.
