Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen
Jan 18, 2011 | 0 commentsIn the late 1990s, Frank Solivan II could be heard at bars or folk festivals somewhere in Alaska almost every weekend. Burly and bald, his powerful tenor pipes and fabulous skills on mandolin and fiddle put him in high demand on the local country and bluegrass scene. Solivan grew up with music in his hometown, Modesto, Calif. His mom and dad were both active musicians and bluegrass enthusiasts. Young Frank won contests as a fiddler, banjo player and earned the position of second chair cello in the California All-State Honor Orchestra. Now with his band, critical acclaim keeps pouring in – “Wow… incredible music by a great combination of players. These guys have the whole package – they can sing, play and write extremely well! This is the best new bluegrass band…” ~Rob Ickes visit his website: http://dirtykitchenband.com/ tickets are $10 in advance, $15 day of show
Natalia Zukerman and Garrison Starr
Jan 17, 2011 | 0 commentsWith diverse influences that include Folk, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Bluegrass, Country and even Classical, Natalia Zukerman has been described by public radio as “an example of the finest Americana.” She combines her unique slide guitar playing style with seductive vocals, a painter’s observing eye, unapologetic writing, and sharp wit. Zukerman’s music is as riddled with urban restlessness as it is grounded in rootsy warmth – a welcome contradiction. “Natalia’s voice could send an orchid into bloom while her guitar playing can open a beer bottle with its teeth.” –New Yorker “a strutting brass band one minute, a sighing lover the next.” –The Boston Globe “a wise mix of rootsy styles from torch blues to country swing. If you’re a fan of Madeleine Peyroux, Bonnie Raitt or even Amy Winehouse, you’ll find stuff to connect with here.” –Philadelphia Daily News Singer. Songwriter. Guitarist. For fifteen years, Garrison Starr has been doing what most people just...
“Djangoary” DjangoFest!
Jan 17, 2011 | 0 commentswith Gypsy Roots, Dallas Vietty, Barry Wahrhaftig, & the Woodshedders! 3 great acts celebrate… it’s Django ‘s Birthday on Jan. 23!! One of the first prominent European jazz musicians, Django Reinhardt remains one of the most renowned jazz guitarists. Tonight’s show is FEATURING: The Woodshedders are an original spark on the American soundscape. This talented bunch has mined its musical coal and renders to us a slew of new songs and sounds inspired by the old-times. With a fiery fiddle, gypsy guitar, rambling bass, pouncing drums, and songbird harmonies (and a host of awesome guests) the band veers from hard-swinging Django-esque romps to hot country jump blues; old-timey waltzes to misty mountain ballads. The delivery is spontaneous and genuine, and irreverently harrows the boundaries of contemporary roots music. Their debut album Catch That Yardbird graces the SoundStage! Top Ten List, and was honored Roots Album of the Year by JustPlainFolks in 2009,...
Joe Rathbone

The Nashville-based artist sails from atmospheric falsettos to gritty, low refrains, always with an ear for catchy melodies and a clever turn of phrase. After catching the ears of Starbucks/Hear Music with his 2007 release Under the Scorpio Moon, resulting in their licensing several songs for play in stores nationally, Joe Rathbone is back with Mad July; a 5-song EP. visit Joe’s Website: http://www.joerathbone.com Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 day of show
