John Frinzi
Jul 19, 2010 | 0 commentsNew Jersey-born and Florida-based singer/songwriter John Frinzi has steadily gained recognition across the country for his soulful songs, unique voice, and strong live performances. Since the release and airplay success of his first CD, “Into The Dawn,” in 2003, Frinzi has developed a national following through constant touring. He plays well over 200 dates a year. Frinzi has shared the stage with major performers in Americana, Folk and Roots music. Highlights were shows with Todd Snider, Mac McAnally, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Keith Sykes, Chuck Pyle, Mark Erelli, Randy Weeks, Slaid Cleaves, Duane Jarvis, Will Kimbrough, Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart, Eilen Jewell, Peter Mayer, Nadirah Shakoor, Michael Utley and Robert Greenidge. Scott Miller
Jul 19, 2010 | 0 commentsMiller, one of the founders of the seminal roots rock band The Vroys, who recorded three albums for Steve Earle and Jack Emerson’s label E-Squared Records–went on to a successful solo career at Sugar Hill records where he released four critically acclaimed albums from 2001 -2008. He now joins many independently minded artists of today by releasing his own records. Throughout his career, Miller has attracted favorable press notices. No Depression observed, “Probably too smart by half for his own damn good, Scott Miller straddles the cerebral and the visceral.” Added the Washington Post, “In addition to his considerable talents as tunesmith, Miller has two things going for him: a voice gruff enough to suit the music he loves and a personality lighthearted enough to keep the performances from dragging.” And the Nashville Scene summed it up: “Miller stays in touch with his inner rebel while alternating between hillbilly folk and spitfire garage rock that tried...
Caroline Herring
Jul 15, 2010 | 0 commentsFrom her 2001 debut Twilight and its immediate successor Wellspring (2003) to the widely acclaimed Lantana (2008), Herring’s music has been hailed for combining traditional sounds with striking, original observations into modern life and love. The Austin Chronicle proclaimed Lantana to be “the best modern Southern Gothic album since Lucinda Williams’ Sweet Old World.” On Golden Apples of the Sun, Herring stakes out new terrain, exchanging the country-influenced sound of her previous albums for a darker, hauntingly personal sound inspired by the iconic female folk singers and songwriters of the 1960s and 70s. “There’s no getting rid of my accent,” she says slyly, “but other than that, this is not a twangy record. It’s not roots-based.” The new record suggests that Herring has been as much influenced by classic songstresses such as Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins as by her native Southland. The Blue Dogs – Lawrence Gray opens!
Jul 12, 2010 | 0 commentsWith nearly a million miles logged and 100,000 records sold, South Carolina’s BLUE DOGS continue to ride the highways, churn out new music, and win over new fans. Founded initially as a part-time love affair for writing and playing music, the BLUE DOGS spent the better part of the early 90’s honing their songs and live show at venues throughout Mid-Atlantic. Although the band has grown a legion of fans over the years, the BLUE DOGS’ musical diversity has been difficult to classify. Having started as a bluegrass/country/folk-rock duo, and then with the advent of a full band in 96, the BLUE DOGS found themselves with echoes of bluegrass, jam band rock, commercial roots pop/rock, and Americana….somewhere to the right of Americana and left of mainstream Nashville. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 day of show visit the website: http://www.bluedogs.com/
